The Comforts of  Home, LLC

Guiding Alaskans to the Next Frontier of Building Efficiency Excellence

The Homer Electric Association (HEA) now has low interest financing up tp $10,000 for energy improvements.  These services and products should be eligible for the loan.  https://www.homerelectric.com/member-services/line-of-credit-program/

The State of Alaska Legislators passed the On Bill Financing law

Start planning now to improve the efficiency of your buildings by borrowing from the local utility and installing solar combined with any heat pump system from The Comforts of Home.  You may also be eligible for the 26% Federal Solar Tax Credit.  This was extended in January 2021.

When you install the (ASHP) Air Source Heat Pump heating/hot water/solar combination , the entire Systems can also become eligible!
ASHP's alone do not qualify, so consider adding solar.

You can run the ASHP's for 8-9 months per year and reduce Heating and Hot Water cost and power the systems free with solar electric power.  You will drastically reduce the existing expense of your Annual Heating.
The Hot water is the "Battery Storage" you can use for hot water needs or for Low Temperature Heating.  Especially when installed in a Net Zero building with heat losses more than 80% lower than code minimums.

The Comforts of Home can model your present (or for new construction) Heat load calculations. We then model upgrades that will reduce the heat load to the lowest possible level.  Then we design a Solar powered ASHP hydronic low temperature heating system, as well as ventilation, that will give you clean, fresh air all the time.  These are very reliable and very cost effective methods even in Alaska's cold climate.  They bring the cost of heating and hot water down by eliminating fossil fuel and using solar to replace it for 7-9 months per year.  It's all in the design!

We have 4 seasons in which we need some heat almost every day in Alaska.  For winter months we can design solar stored heat, that can supply low temperature heating either through radiant flooring or LTE's (Low Temperature Emitters).  These are products like the Jaga radiators and High Wall Emitters using hydronic heat instead of refrigerants.   We can design systems using the Sanden and Minotair ASHP's and running glycol from the outdoor units to Buffer Tanks inside (SunBandit).  This can supply the heating (or cooling in areas that get into the 90's in summer, or commercial space) through High Wall Heads typically found on ASHP's.

The difference is the supply from the buffer tank does not need to be refrigerant.   Refrigerants used in ASHP's typically have high global warming potential. If (when) the line sets on ASHP systems get a leak, they are very expensive to repair especially in remote areas.  We have reduced this by using the Sanden Air to water CO2 charged Air to Water Air source Heat Pumps.
We are analyzing the long term risks in our designed, planning the new system with these risks in mind and designing for low maintenance long term.
